Viva Electric Jets: Accelerating Sustainable Water Mobility in 2025

As we enter a new year, Viva Electric Jets is proud to report significant progress in our mission to revolutionize the watercraft industry. After our first prototype launch in 2024, this year marks a pivotal moment in our journey, as we take major strides towards making sustainable electric watercraft a reality.

Establishing a Production Line in Mikkeli, Finland

We are thrilled to announce that our production line in Mikkeli, Finland is now underway. This significant investments will enable us to scale up the manufacturing of our game-changing electric jetskis, bringing us closer to achieving our vision of carbon-neutral waters. Located in the heart of Finland, Mikkeli offers an ideal blend of skilled workforce, infrastructure and logistical advantages as part of the electric mobility cluster, making it the perfect hub for our production line.

Our state-of-the-art facility will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, allowing us to optimize production efficiency while maintaining our commitment to quality and sustainability. As we grow our production capabilities, we aim to create new job opportunities and drive economic growth for the near future in the region.

Introducing an enhanced version

In addition to our production line milestone, we are excited to announce the development of an enhanced model. This next-generation electric jetskis will build upon the success of our initial designs, incorporating valuable insights from our testing and from the feedback gained from our partners. Based on heavy testing and experiences during 2024, the next model boasts an all-around enhanced hull with better performance, efficiency, and sustainability features, further solidifying our position as leaders in electric watercraft knowhow. The differences compared to the first version might be minor to an untrained eye, but significant regarding the performance and attractivness of the product.

A Year of Growth and Innovation

As we reflect on the past year, we are proud of the significant progress we've made including our Viva unveiling at the Helsinki Boat Fair. In 2025, we will continue to drive innovation, invest in our people and technology, and collaborate with our stakeholders to realize our shared vision of a more sustainable watercraft industry.

Viva Electric Jets begins building a production line in Mikkeli

In mid-November, the ELY Centre of South Savo (Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment), granted funding to our company for developing new generation electric jet skis. Building the first phase production line in Mikkeli is now decided.

The development work on the jet skis has been carried out at a rapid pace in Mikkeli for a year, and the first prototype has been presented at fairs and various other events. The Viva Electric Jet will be put into production with a new hull that can be equipped to meet the needs of different user groups.

“First, our goal is to manufacture around 200 jet skis a year in Mikkeli. We will first make the GT version, i.e. the racing version with the latest equipment. Later, other versions suitable for different uses, such as authorities, recreational and fishing use, can be built on its basis,” says Timo Kronqvist, CEO of Viva Jets Oy.

The construction of the first series production line will be started with the help of a funding decision of around three hundred thousand euros made by the ELY Centre. The self-financing part of the project has already been raised earlier.

Small-scale production of electric watercraft will begin in Mikkeli in 2025, and the following year, production capacity will be fully operational.

The company will subcontract the hulls of the watercraft so that it can focus on its own expertise in electric mobility (low-emission and energy-efficient design, electir power, jet engines and usability) , as well as on equipping, testing and servicing the watercraft.

“We are starting small-scale production with ease, considering what we will manufacture ourselves and what will be procuded with subcontractors. We will use different electric motors and batteries as well as special components for the devices manufactured for different purposes. Also, taking advantage of the knowhow of the Mikkeli electric cluster in our production, is a must.”

The company is also running a separate product development project, where the next version of the device will be developed. There the the obligatory CE -standrds will be applied, which indicates that the product meets the requirements of EU directives and regulations.

When the production of the watercraft is in full swing later, the company will employ fifty experts in Mikkeli.

Pre-orders are interesting

About 50 pre-orders have already been made for electric watercraft.

“We are still collecting pre-orders from those interested. During the spring, we will start selling the equipment to them when delivery times are confirmed,” describes CEO Kronqvist.

In the summer of 2025, the company will participate in trade fairs in Monaco and the following year in Düsseldorf, Germany. The fairs will be used as an opportunity to present the products to the general public.

“We invite those who have pre-ordered to Mikkeli to get to know the equipment. We are also seeking funding to accelerate marketing and sales abroad, where our main markets are.”

Well-known investors are involved

Former Formula 1 driver Mika Salo joined as an investor and brand ambassador at the initial stage. Another well-known brand ambassador and investor is ice hockey influencer and former player Jarmo Kekäläinen.

“Our brand ambassadors have good international networks that help us with disgussion regarding our target groups. We are very pleased that we now have local supporters and investors joining us. We will be happy to tell interested parties about more cooperation opportunities.”

Mikkeli has created The Electric Mobility Cluster

Mikkeli development company Miksei Oy has assembled the Finnish Electric Mobility Cluster in Mikkeli.

In addition to Viva Jets Oy, the cluster includes Aurora Powertrains, which built an electric battery production line in Mikkeli and electric snowmobiles, Valkama Watercrafts, which develops electric boats, and AMS Corporation, which developed a mobile DC fast charging station. The developers of the eLyly snowmobile are also involved.

The country's first Electric Mobility Cluster has been assembled by project manager Marjo Niittuaho-Nastolin, who has supported companies in seeking funding, marketing and internationalization through the development project.

The cluster will include new companies developing products and services for electric light mobility. The project will end at the end of July 2025.

Viva Electric Jets rakentaa tuotantolinjan Mikkeliin

Etelä-Savon ELY-keskus myönsi marraskuun puolivälissä sähköisten vesijettien kehittäjäyritykselle rahoituksen suunnitella, rakentaa ja ottaa käyttöön sarjavalmistuslinja Mikkeliin. 

Vesijettien kehitystyötä on tehty vauhdikkaasti Mikkelissä vuoden ajan, ja prototyyppiä on esitelty messuilla ja erilaisissa tapahtumissa. Sarjavalmistukseen tulevassa vesijetissä on uusi runko, jota pystytään varustelemaan eri käyttäjäryhmien tarpeisiin. 

”Tavoitteenamme on noin 200 vesijetin valmistus vuodessa Mikkelissä. Teemme ensin GT-version eli viimeisen päälle varustellun kilpaversion. Sen pohjalle voidaan rakentaa myös eri käyttötarkoituksiin, kuten viranomaisille tai huvi- ja kalastuskäyttöön sopivia versioita”, Viva Jets Oy:n toimitusjohtaja Timo Kronqvist sanoo. 

ELY-keskuksen tekemän noin kolmensadantuhannen euron rahoituspäätöksen turvin käynnistetään sarjavalmistuslinjan rakentaminen. Hankkeen omarahoitusosuus on saatu kokoon jo aiemmin. 

Sähköisten vesijettien piensarjavalmistus alkaa Mikkelissä vuoden 2025 aikana, ja seuraavana vuonna tuotantokapasiteetti toimii täysillä. 

Vesijettien rungot yritys teettää alihankkijoillaan, jotta se voi keskittyä omaan, sähköiseen liikkumiseen liittyvään erikoisosaamiseensa sekä vesijettien varusteluun, testaukseen ja huoltoon.

”Käynnistämme piensarjavalmistusta rauhallisesti miettien, mitä valmistamme itse ja minkä hankimme alihankkijoilta. Eri käyttötarkoituksiin valmistettaviin laitteisiin hyödynnämme erilaisia sähkömoottoreita ja -akustoja sekä erikoiskomponentteja. Hyödynnämme Mikkelin sähköisen klusterin palveluita tuotannossamme.”

Yrityksellä on meneillään myös erillinen tuotekehityshanke, jossa kehitetään laitteen seuraavaa versiota, ja sille haetaan CE-merkintä, joka kertoo siitä, että tuote täyttää EU:n direktiivien ja asetusten vaatimukset.  

Kun jettien valmistus pyörii täysillä, yritys työllistää Mikkelissä puolenkymmentä osaajaa. 

Ennakkotilaukset kiinnostavat

Sähköisistä vesijeteistä on tehty jo noin 50 ennakkotilausta. 

”Keräämme edelleen ennakkotilauksia kiinnostuneilta. Kevään aikana alamme myydä heille laitteita, kun toimitusajat vahvistuvat”, toimitusjohtaja Kronqvist kuvaa. 

Kesällä 2025 yritys osallistuu messuille Monacossa ja seuraavana vuonna Düsseldorfissa Saksassa. Messuja hyödynnetään tilaisuutena esitellä tuotteet suurelle yleisölle.

”Ennakkotilauksen tehneitä kutsumme Mikkeliin tutustumaan laitteisiin. Haemme myös rahoitusta vauhdittamaan markkinointia ja myyntiä ulkomaille, missä päämarkkinamme ovat.”

Nimekkäitä sijoittajia mukana

Entinen Formula 1 -kuljettaja Mika Salo lähti jo alkuvaiheessa mukaan sijoittajaksi ja brändilähettilääksi. Toinen nimekkäistä brändilähettiläistä ja sijoittajista on jääkiekkovaikuttaja ja entinen pelaaja Jarmo Kekäläinen. 

”Brändilähettiläillämme on hyvät kansainväliset verkostot, joiden kautta kuulemme vesijeteistä kiinnostuneista kohderyhmistä. Olemme erittäin tyytyväisiä, että meillä on nyt paikallisia tukijoita ja sijoittajia tulossa mukaan. Kerromme mielellämme sijoittamisesta kiinnostuneille tahoille lisää yhteistyömahdollisuuksista.” 

Mikkeliin syntyi kevyen sähköisen liikkumisen klusteri

Mikkelin kehitysyhtiö Miksei Oy koonnut Mikkeliin valtakunnallisen kevyen sähköisen liikkumisen klusterin. 

Viva Jets Oy:n lisäksi klusteriin kuuluvat muun muassa sähköisten akustojen tuotantolinjan Mikkeliin tehnyt Aurora Powertrains, sähköveneitä kehittävä Valkama Watercrafts ja liikuteltavan DC-pikalatausaseman kehittänyt AMS Corporation. Mukana ovat myös eLyly-lumiskootterin kehittäjät. 

Maan ensimmäisen sähköisen kevyen liikkumisen klusterin kokoajana on toiminut projektipäällikkö Marjo Niittuaho-Nastolin, joka on kehittämishankkeen avulla tukenut yrityksiä rahoituksen haussa, markkinoinnissa ja kansainvälistymisessä. 

Klusteri ottaa mukaan uusia, sähköiseen kevyeen liikkumiseen tuotteita ja palveluita kehittäviä yrityksiä. Hanke päättyy heinäkuun lopussa 2025.

Perinteisiin vesijetteihin verrattuna suurempi koko tuottaa ennennäkemättömän liu'un . Lisäämällä leveyttä ja käyttämällä huippuluokan rungon kulmia, VIVA nousee välittömästi plaaniin unohtamatta ketteryysominaisuuksia, joita ei ole missään muussa vesijetissä. VIVA-tiimimme on luonut jotain, jossa on riittävä kantokyky ja riittävästi tilaa ihmisille ja tarvikkeille riippumatta siitä, mitä kukin tekee. Tyypillisesti vesijetit ovat pitudeltaan vajaat kolme metriä pitkiä - Viva on tasan neljä. VIVAssa on 500:n litran vedenpitävä lokero keulassa. Ja tietenkin koko ja muotoilu on tehty sellaiseksi, että laite erottuu muista. Jos kuvittelet erilaisia vesiskoottereita ja muita PWC:itä (personal watercraft) rivissä, VIVA erottuu muista, se on selvä!
