Finnish electric watercraft manufacturer Viva Electric Jets has successfully completed the first phase of testing as part of its ongoing CE conformity assessment process during the second week of October. It represents a significant milestone in Viva's journey from on-off items to development towards commercial production.

CE Marking – An Essential Step for European Watercrafts

CE marking is a mandatory requirement for most recreational boats and personal watercraft entering the European market. Under the European Union's Recreational Craft Directive (2013/53/EU), manufacturers must demonstrate that their products meet applicable safety, construction and environmental requirements.

For small boats and personal watercraft, the conformity assessment generally addresses several key areas, including:
- Stability and buoyancy: Ensuring the vessel remains stable, floats safely and meets the relevant design requirements.
- Structural integrity: Assessing the strength and safety of the hull and its construction.
- Safe operation: Evaluating steering, handling, onboard safety arrangements and protection of passengers.
- Electrical and propulsion systems: Verifying that the relevant installations and systems meet applicable safety requirements.
- Environmental performance: Assessing applicable noise and emissions requirements.
- Documentation and identification: Ensuring that technical documentation, identification markings, operating instructions and the EU Declaration of Conformity meet regulatory requirements.

The exact assessment procedures depend on the vessel's classification and technical characteristics. CE marking demonstrates conformity with applicable EU requirements and enables compliant products to be marketed throughout the EuropeanEconomic Area.

Viva's first tests on 8th of October were highly successful as the performance was mainly better than expected and none of the remarks were critical. 

Unlike conventional jet skis, Viva's fully electric eMPV concept combines the maneuverability and excitement of personal watercraft with a wider, more stable and versatile platform. Designed for a broad range of applications, the vessel offers opportunities for recreational boating, rental operations and professional use.

Towards CE approval

The CE conformity assessment is part of a broader European Union co-funded development project aimed at establishing serial production of Viva's electric watercraft in Mikkeli, Finland. In addition to product testing and CE marking, the project includes designing and building the production and assembly line, developing manufacturing processes, acquiring production equipment, protecting intellectual property and strengthening the company's international market readiness. The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the Innovation and Skills in Finland 2021–2027 programme.

With the initial tests successfully completed, Viva is progressing towards finalizing its CE conformity assessment. The company expects to complete the remaining requirements and obtain the necessary documentation for CE marking in the near future, subject to full completion of the assessment process.

Hanke on Euroopan unionin osarahoittama, ja sitä rahoitetaan Euroopan aluekehitysrahastosta (EAKR) osana Uudistuva ja osaava Suomi 2021–2027 -ohjelmaa.

CE-merkintä on olennainen osa vesikulkuneuvojen markkinoille saattamista

Osana hanketta Viva Electric Jets toteutti lokakuun toisella viikolla CE-vaatimustenmukaisuuden arviointiin liittyvien testien ensimmäisen vaiheen. Testien onnistuminen on merkittävä virstanpylväs yhtiön siirtymisessä yksittäiskappaleiden valmistuksesta kohti kaupallista sarjatuotantoa.

CE-merkintä on pakollinen useimmille Euroopan markkinoille saatettaville huviveneille ja vesijeteille. Euroopan unionin huvivenedirektiivin (2013/53/EU) mukaan valmistajan on osoitettava, että tuote täyttää sitä koskevat turvallisuus-, rakenne- ja ympäristövaatimukset.

Pienveneiden ja vesijettien vaatimustenmukaisuuden arvioinnissa tarkastellaan useita keskeisiä osa-alueita, kuten:

• Vakaus ja kelluvuus: Varmistetaan, että vesikulkuneuvo on vakaa, kelluu turvallisesti ja täyttää sitä koskevat suunnitteluvaatimukset.
• Rakenteellinen lujuus: Arvioidaan rungon ja sen rakenteiden kestävyyttä ja turvallisuutta.
• Käyttöturvallisuus: Tarkastellaan ohjattavuutta, hallittavuutta, turvallisuusjärjestelyjä ja matkustajien suojaamista.
• Sähkö- ja propulsiojärjestelmät: Varmistetaan, että sähköasennukset ja voimansiirtojärjestelmät täyttävät sovellettavat turvallisuusvaatimukset.
• Ympäristövaatimukset: Arvioidaan sovellettavien melu- ja päästövaatimusten täyttymistä.
• Dokumentaatio ja tunnistetiedot: Varmistetaan, että tekniset asiakirjat, tunnistemerkinnät, käyttöohjeet ja EU-vaatimustenmukaisuusvakuutus täyttävät säädösten vaatimukset.

Arviointimenettelyt riippuvat vesikulkuneuvon luokituksesta ja teknisistä ominaisuuksista. CE-merkintä osoittaa tuotteen täyttävän sitä koskevat EU-vaatimukset ja mahdollistaa vaatimustenmukaisen tuotteen markkinoille saattamisen koko Euroopan talousalueella.

Ensimmäiset testit ylittivät odotukset

Vivan ensimmäiset testit toteutettiin 8. lokakuuta, ja niiden tulokset olivat erittäin myönteisiä. Testeissä laitteen suorituskyky oli pääosin odotettua parempi, eikä arvioinnissa havaittu yhtään kriittistä puutetta.

Perinteisistä vesijeteistä poiketen Vivan täysin sähköinen eMPV-konsepti (electric MultiPurpose Vessel) yhdistää vesijettien ketteryyden ja ajonautinnon tavanomaista leveämpään, vakaampaan ja monikäyttöisempään rakenteeseen. Monipuolisiin käyttötarkoituksiin suunniteltu vesikulkuneuvo soveltuu niin vapaa-ajan veneilyyn, vuokraustoimintaan kuin ammattikäyttöönkin.

Onnistuneiden ensimmäisten testien myötä Viva etenee kohti CE-vaatimustenmukaisuuden arviointiprosessin viimeistelyä. Yhtiö odottaa saavansa jäljellä olevat vaatimukset täytettyä ja CE-merkintään tarvittavan dokumentaation valmiiksi lähitulevaisuudessa.

Viva Electric Jets concluded a highly successful participation in the Finnboat Lakeland Floating Show 2026 on Lake Päijänne, where international boating journalists, industry professionals, and boating enthusiasts had the opportunity to experience the company’s electric Multi-Purpose Vessel (eMPV) concept in its natural environment.

The Finnboat Lakeland Floating Show is one of the most important international boat testing events in Finland, bringing together domestic boat manufacturers and international marine media for hands-on testing and evaluation of the latest innovations on the water. This year's event took place across the Päijänne region, showcasing Finnish marine technology to visitors and journalists from several countries.

Though Viva had a proto type present, journalists were particularly interested in Viva's unique eMPV concept, which combines the agility of a personal watercraft with the stability, carrying capacity, and versatility of a much wider platform. The electric propulsion system, silent operation, and multi-use capabilities generated lively discussions about the future of sustainable boating. Media response was highly encouraging. Journalists highlighted the vessel's stability, practical design, and quiet operation. 

The company's demonstrations were supported by EV Mobile, whose mobile charging solutions enabled continuous test operations throughout the event. Together, the companies demonstrated how electric mobility on water can operate efficiently even in locations where fixed charging infrastructure may be limited.

The participation further strengthened Viva Electric Jets' position as one of Finland's most innovative emerging marine technology companies. Viva is different.

The Finnboat Lakeland Floating Show once again demonstrated why Finland remains as a global leader in innovative boating technology, and for Viva Electric Jets the event marked another important milestone on it’s journey.

Finnish clean technology pioneers Viva Electric Jets and EV Mobile will jointly participate in the Lakeland Floating 2026 event, organized by Finnboat in the Lake Päijänne region next week.

During the event, visitors and media representatives will have the opportunity to experience Viva Electric Jets’ innovative eMPV (electric Multi-Purpose Vessel), a fully electric vessel designed to provide a silent, emission-free, and sustainable alternative for waterborne transport. The company’s mission is to transform mobility on water by combining performance, comfort, and environmental responsibility.

EV Mobile will support the demonstrations by providing mobile energy and charging solutions between test runs. The company specializes in flexible energy infrastructure and battery-buffered fast-charging systems, enabling reliable electric mobility even in locations where grid capacity may be limited.

The collaboration is nothing new to these two companies, as last summer was highly successful regarding their collaboration. Budapest Boat Show 19–22.2.2026

The Road Trip started in Budapest, where we participated in the Budapest Boat Show with our dealer Viking Yacht Club. The event attracted a lot of interest, and after the fair we organized two days of test drives for potential customers.

• During the test days, approximately 15 test drives were conducted per day
• The tests were conducted on a single charge
• Customer feedback was exceptionally positive, and we expect several new orders

Nice Boating Tomorrow, Nice 19–22 March 2026

The Road Trip continues to the French Riviera for the Nice Boating Tomorrow event. Viva will be on display at the pier and available for test drives throughout the event. The event is supported by a targeted marketing campaign running on Meta’s channels, reaching boating enthusiasts in the region.

Poland – cooperation with Wave Boat Poland

After Nice, Viva will travel to Poland for a marketing event organized by our dealer Wave Boat Poland. There, too, potential customers will be able to experience Viva’s performance in practice.

Tests in Finland

The Road Trip will end in early April, when Viva will return to Finland to continue testing and test drives with the Finnish Defence Forces' special forces.

We are pleased to announce that the Viva team with its partners is leaving on a European roadtrip in February. The aim is to showcase our electric multipurpose vessel (eMPV) and give test drive possibilities to those interested.

The first road trip stop is at the Budapest Boat Show 19.-22.2 in partnership with Wiking Yacht Club, marking the official start of Viva’s spring road trip across Europe.

The Budapest Boat Show represents an important early-season meeting point for boating enthusiasts, industry professionals, and future partners in Central Europe, especially in the electric marina world. Together with Wiking Yacht Club, Viva will present its eMPV concept, designed to offer a larger, more stable, and highly flexible electric working platform directly on the water. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the vessel up close and discuss its wide range of applications, from professional use to leisure and transport.

For those truly interested, test run possibilities are organised after the exhibition.

Following Hungary, Viva will continue visiting several key locations across Europe to meet customers, resellers, and stakeholders, while increasing awareness of our electric water mobility solutions. These visits will include boat shows, demo events, and targeted meetings, supporting Viva’s preparations for its first delivery year. We’ll announce our next stops soon.
